Joint Budget Subcommittee Listening Tour
This committee is looking for feedback as they finalize budgets and assess the need for - and appropriate amount of - an override this spring.
Dr. Robert Dutch, former Franklin Business Administrator
"It's very rare that a community lives within 2.5% as far as their school district... you're seeing that across the board...I don't think the perception is accurate that the schools are not managing their funds well. Having come from outside, they're doing good with the funds they have available to them... it's not a realistic expectation to think that you can live there, and the bottom line... there's just not enough revenue coming in... until that's fixed, you're going to continue to have that problem."
Melanie Hamblen, Town Councilor
(regarding the school and municipal budget line items)
"Take a look everybody, ask your questions, and I think that will help everyone get on the same page. People can see that there is transparency, and we can start to trust our experts that we pay to do this work for us"
Tom Mercer, Chair of Franklin Town Council & Chair of Joint Budget Subommittee
(regarding Franklin's process to resolve our structural deficit)
"...we're going to start from square one... I think it's very important we walk through the budget process together and collectively through the budget cycle....I'm hoping this approach will enlighten and educate those that are interested in making the best community decisions moving forward..."
